Who was S. Chandrashekhar
Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar known as S. Chandrashekar (1910 – 1995) was an Indian-American theoretical physicist. He spent his professional life mostly in the United States. He was awarded Nobel Prize in 1983 for Physics that he shared with William A. Fowler for theoretical studies of the physical processes of importance to the structure and evolution of the stars. Chandrasekhar studied at Presidency College, Madras (now Chennai) and the University of Cambridge and served as a long-time professor at the University of Chicago.
Chandrasekhar was born in Lahore present Pakistan on 19 October 1910 in a Tamil Brahmin family, studied in Chennai in earlier days and then moved to the US. Nobel laureate Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman known as Dr. C.V. Raman was his paternal uncle.
