ANC Earbuds or Heart Rate Sensor? Google Research

Google research reveals that ANC earbuds can be converted into heart rate sensor and that too with a simple software update

The research claims this does not need any additional hardware materials.

According to the official post, audioplethysmography (APG) enables ANC devices to monitore physiological signals like hear rate and heart rate variability.

Still in research, the technology is yet to be validated and can only filed for patent after passing all the tests.
